This morning, the Holy Father accepted the resignation from pastoral government of the Diocese of Nelson (BC, Canada) presented by His Excellency, John Corriveau, OFM, Cap.
The Pope has appointed His Excellency, Gregory John Matthew Bittman who has, until now, been serving as Titular Bishop of Caltadria and Auxiliary Bishop of Edmonton as the new Bishop of Nelson.
His Excellency, Gregory Bittman was born on 5 March 1961 in Hamilton, Ontario. His initial formation took place at the Benedictine Seminary of Christ the King in Mission, British Columbia, where he earned a Master of Divinity. He later worked at the hospital in Edmonton as a nurse before pursuing further studies and earning a Licence in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America.
He was ordained a priest on 15 August 1996.
Following his ordination, he was entrusted with the following responsibilities: Administrator of the Parish of the Sacred Heart in Gibbons (1996-1997); Pastor of Our Lady of the Prairies in Daysland (1997-1999); Pastor of Christ the King in Settler, ad of Our Lady of Grace in Castor (1999-2000); Pastor of Saint Agnes and Saint Anthony (2000-2001); Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Edmonton and a member of the College of Consultors (2000). In 2009, he was named Judicial Vicar.
Elected as Titular Bishop of Caltadria and Auxiliary of Edmonton on 14 July 2012, he was consecrated on 3 September of that year.
