An International Debate being held today at the Vatican

Today, at the Vatican, at the Casina Pio IV, there will be a debate focusing on the subject of Corruption.  This debate will involve people from various nations throughout the world and is being hosted by the Dicastery for Integral Human Development (which is presided over by Cardinal Peter Turkson) and the Pontifical Academy for Social Sciences.

This is a first gathering of this group of international participants who will reflect on the global problem of corruption and its involvement with organized crime and with the mafia.  The group gathers Christians and non-Christians, Church leaders and various others from other institutions, magistrates, police representatives, members of various movements and organizations, victims of crime, journalists and intellectuals.

The meeting will be followed by a Press Conference which will also involve various ambassadors accredited to the Holy See.  The one-day conference will conclude with a visit to the Sistine Chapel and Signature Room in order to highlight, through the beauty of art, the importance of the role of education in promoting a commitment to justice and fighting corruption.  A new book based on an interview which was granted by Cardinal Turkson to Vittorio V. Alberti entitled Corruption is also being released today.

Today's debate can be followed on Twitter (@MichForJustice) and on Facebook (Michelangelo for Justice), and contributions to the debate can be added using the hashtag #MichelangeloForJustice.  Access is also available by email at nocorruption@humandevelopment.va.
